except与except for的区别

except与except for有什么区别

(1) 在乎义上有什么区别

except主要用来谈论相同种类的东西，而except for则主要用来谈论不相同种类的东西，在说明状况后作细节上的修正，有时含有惋惜之意。如：

We had a pleasant time, except for the weather. 大家玩得非常高兴，只不过天气不太好。

(2) 用于句首时有什么区别

此时只用except for，不需要except。如：

Except for Jim, everyone went there. 除吉姆外，大伙都去了。

(3) 两者可以互换的场所

当用于all, every, no, everything, anybody, nobody, nowhere, whole等表示概括性的词汇后面时，两者可互换。如：

You couldn’t hear anything except (for) the noise of Louise typing. 除去路易丝打字的声音外，你什么也听不到。

但下面一句要用except for，由于其前没上面提到的概括性的词汇：

The house was quiet except for the noise of Louise typing. 除去路易丝打字的声音外，房里安安静静的。
